THE ART OF BEING INTENTIONAL;

A Guide To True Intentionality.

For the longest time, I have always known that the meaning of being intentional is putting all your effort into something you want so bad. I mean, it only makes sense, right? It simply means getting clear on what you aim to achieve and going for it albeit the number of all possible excuses available. This could be a new job, finding a healthy life partner, a big business start-up, or even healing and becoming whole. A goal to me is something one feels would make their life way better. So it could be anything for anyone.

However, after months and months of research, learning, and unlearning, I have concluded that lo and behold, this subtle word holds more than just nine letters in it. I now understand why most people, myself included, find this ‘setting intentions’ thing, way easier said than done. I can’t count the number of times I have set intention towards a certain goal, and, weeks or months into it, I somehow find myself losing track, motivation, and willpower. This always leads to me procrastinating. And it becomes an endless cycle where I set a goal, become intentional about it, lose willpower with time, procrastinate, and go back to square one. (I can already feel the affirmative nods from many of you reading this).

I was watching Dr. Joe Dispenza’s interview with Tom Bilyeu about Defining Intention the other day. The life guru explains clearly why this happens.

“It’s easier said than done because people let their analytical mind get overdriven by stress hormones. They overthink everything. That’s not setting intention, that’s trying to control everything in your life.”

This makes sense, even concerning the spiritual realm. When you pray to your Higher Being, it’s advised not to worry about how it will come to happen. Pray, believe, do the work, then receive. When we talk about the law of attraction, it’s often advised not to think of the ‘how’, because in most cases, the ‘how’ harbors a lot of doubtful thoughts. You might want a good job, for instance, set the intention and apply for jobs everywhere. Nevertheless, somewhere at the back of your mind, thoughts such as:

“What if I invest all this money then the business flops because many people are doing it already?”

“What if I can’t find love because I’m not good enough?”

“How will I get this new job without enough experience?”

..and so on, run around your mind. If you ask me, most of these thoughts are usually a result of a similar experience from the past.

Oh, the mind. If you are into mental health, you must know very well the impact of a single thought on your reality. See how this disrupts the whole flow of intention? Now, the problem is that these thoughts, most often than not, are usually subconscious. This means that they more likely than not make-up part of a person’s character/personality. Your present personality is made up of how you have been thinking (thought), feeling (emotion), and acting (action) for a prolonged period. So, no matter how many times you set intentions, without ensuring that your subconscious thought and emotional patterns are aligned with what you want, you will somehow find trouble achieving them fully.

It’s your responsibility to be conscious of unconscious thought patterns (because they dictate your life, like it or not), and modify them to create the personality you want. It is very much possible.

Look at the thoughts and emotions that keep you anchored to the past and decide if you want those emotions in your future- Joe Dispenza.

It can be hard at first because hey, detaching from a specific identity is never easy.

This means having a sufficient amount of self-awareness. Don’t let any thought or emotion or action that brings you to your past slip through your awareness- Joe Dispenza.

You got to do this for a long time. It’ll take a certain amount of repetition, will, and courage to get there.
